Sanctuary space

My Son space is the severeness of  mountain and forests, hovering spiritual features.
The name of Mhadravata mountain, whose heigh is 730m, was written in the first epitaph in My Son in 4th century.
Mahapavata is regarded as the Meru mountain, the abode of gods in Indian mythology. In past, the foreign merchantmans traveling in the East Sea considered this mountain as a lighthouse and also a landmark to identify the location of My Son sanctuary as well as Cham kingdom. From the peak of the mountain, we can see the  tower-temples in My Son like the light torchs among the green of mountain.

The location of Thu Bon river

Thu Bon is one of the chief rivers of Amaravati emirate (Quang Nam area) throughout the periods of history of the ancient Champa as well as the Kinh / Vietnamese later. This river, also called Mahadani in the Cham epitaph, represents the goddess Ganga, the wife of Shiva.
Located in the North of My Son valley, it rises from the top of Ngoc Linh mountain and flows from West to East. The river is the lifeblood waterway between highland and lowland, the mountains, plains and the sea and play the most important role in the waterway trading network of Amaravati. Moreover, it is also considered a salt road because the Central Coast has a lot of villages producing salt, the essential goods to provide for the people living in the midlands and mountainous such as the Katu.

Mahadravara

Amaravati emirate was formed on the basis of Thu Bon river. Here the Champa has established three major centers: a port in estuary - the economic center; the capital in Tra Kieu - the center of royal power, and a holy capital at My Son – the center of royal religion.
This is also the typical model for other emirates in the kingdom of Champa, a kingdom whose economy is the commercial navigation/ sea trade developed relying on the ports connecting with the international sea trade lane.
